For thousands of years, the authorship of the Book of Hebrews has been debated. From the concept of apostolicity to the veracity of the theological ideas the author brings forth, the uncertainty and mastery of presentation are unprecedented. The unknown biblical author had a superior knowledge of rhetoric and culture that no other biblical author possessed. As a result, the biblical author left us with a few internal clues of his penmanship. An astute reader can uncover these clues through the historical research and comparative methodology described in this book. The current book is a continuation of my first scholastic book on the subject, “The Warning Passages in Hebrews: Exhortations Written Using Deliberative Rhetoric To A Community Of Faith,” and will be perhaps the first part of a series of books on the matter of The Book of Hebrews.
Previous scholars have attempted to give a name to the enigmatic figure of the author of the Book of Hebrews. Still, none have used the methodology applied successfully in my first scholastic book, and now, it is used again to ascertain the author of this marvelous biblical book, once and for all. The socio-linguistical approach, or methodology, has been proven to help determine matters of ancient books where society and linguistics have been lost due to the past of time. At first, the methodology allowed us to pinpoint how the biblical author simultaneously presented his argument to Jewish and Greek societies. It will now allow us, the readers, to identify the elusive author. I will show internal and external evidence to support the arguments within the book.
Suppose you are a serious student of biblical concepts and ideas. In that case, this book will be a tool for your arsenal during your seminary career or personal research on complex topics presented by Bible scholarship. The research and empirical evidence presented will help you, not with theological posturing, but with sound research to reach your conclusion. Origen’s original concept that “only the author knows” may finally be overruled by this research. Notwithstanding, this book is not intended for agnostics or atheists’ use as tools for their arguments but rather for edifying the body of serious scholars on biblical matters. Recognizing the authority of the biblical author as an apostle is the first step to understanding this magnificent biblical masterpiece.
